To join in the fun:
1) Send a scarf
The specs:
* Scarves should be five inches wide.
(That is roughly 20 stitches with worsted weight yarn on size 8 needles…test your gauge and change your needle size accordingly.)
* I recommend garter stitch for ease of knitting and evenness, but any stitch will do, as long as the piece lies flat.
* washable yarn is not required, but preferred, as the completed piece will eventually be disassembled and individual scarves donated to people who need them. (In other words, keep wearability in mind)
* any length and color will do – get creative!

When do you need all the scarves?
Hi Barbara – this is a long term community project and I will be accepting scarves on an ongoing basis. At the moment there is no deadline, though that could change as the scarf progresses. Thanks for inquiring!
Date these are due, please?
How long will you be collecting the scarves?
Hi Susan…ongoing! (No deadline as of yet…) Thanks so much for your interest!
Hi Kathleen! Thanks for asking – no due date as of now. This will be an ongoing, long-term project until further notice…as the project grows, that could change.
How long IS the world’s longest scarf? Is there a record to beat?
Great question Shauneen. I have done a lot of research on the internet, but have been unable to come up with any official record. I have submitted a formal application to the Guinness Book of World Records, and expect to hear back from them within a month or so as to whether they will consider it, and whether there is a pre-existing record (and if so, how long they need the scarf to be.) If they will not consider the category, I will continue with the project anyway, and determine my own goal…stay tuned for details!
I just found this…I’m on it! Will get to work.
excellent!!! Thank you 🙂
Hi Betsy, This is great!! Are you interested in having a Yarn Shop collect these and send them in as a whole from our community? Also would love to possibly contact you about sponsoring a visit to our area at a later date? If you would prefer to email me: yarns@sunnysideyarns.com
Thanks and Happy Knitting – MaryAnn
